Project type
Growing family home addition and garage loft design
Existing problem
The existing home needed more usable family space, better entry function, larger bedrooms, and more storage.
Design response + deliverables
Expand and reorganize the home with a larger kitchen, improved entry, bedroom upgrades, second-floor laundry, added bath, oversized garage, and storage loft.
Existing/proposed plans, exterior renderings, and residential addition drawing coordination.
The challenge
The existing home needed to work harder for a growing family.
The family had one child and another on the way, and the original layout no longer supported the way the home needed to function day to day. The project reworked the existing kitchen area into a new entry sequence and expanded the house sixteen feet to the rear to create a more useful eat-in kitchen.
The design also needed to connect the house to an oversized two-car garage with second-floor storage, while making the garage loft easier to access for equipment, seasonal items, and riding mower storage support.
Design priorities
- Convert the existing kitchen area into a better daily entry
- Expand the house sixteen feet to the rear for a new eat-in kitchen
- Create a connecting room between the house and garage
- Add an oversized two-car garage with storage above
- Include an equipment ramp for mower access and easier loft storage use
- Use the expanded footprint to create larger rear bedrooms
- Move laundry from the basement to the second floor
- Add an upstairs bathroom for improved family function
Design concept
The renderings show the expanded home, garage connection, decks, and hillside relationship.
Before + after planning
The plans show how the project reorganized both levels of the home.

Design response
A family-centered expansion that solves everyday problems.
This project is a strong example of residential design that is not only about adding square footage. The addition improves arrival, cooking, dining, bedroom function, laundry convenience, garage storage, and exterior access in one coordinated plan.
The result is a home that better supports a growing family now while also providing flexible storage and practical access for future needs.
Project outcome
The completed design created a more functional family home with an expanded kitchen, improved entry, larger upper-level rooms, second-floor laundry, an additional bath, an oversized garage, and a dedicated storage loft supported by an equipment ramp.
