Project type
Whole-home renovation and garage addition design
Existing problem
Existing home function, storage, and bedroom privacy no longer met the family’s needs.
Design response + deliverables
Rework the layout, expand garage capacity, improve daily flow, and create a primary suite within a complete residential renovation concept.
Existing/proposed plan comparison, exterior concept imagery, renovation planning, and residential drawing package coordination.
The challenge
The existing home no longer worked for day-to-day family life.
The house had reached a point where the layout no longer supported the way the family needed to live. Storage was limited, the garage was undersized, circulation was tight, and the home had only one bathroom.
The goal was not simply to add square footage. The design needed to make the home function better, provide better storage, create a larger garage, and add a primary en suite while keeping the exterior cohesive.
Design priorities
- Rework the existing layout for better daily function
- Increase garage and storage capacity
- Add a primary bedroom suite with dedicated bath
- Improve entry sequence and circulation
- Create an exterior that feels intentional, not patched together
Before + after planning
From existing layout to a more functional home.
The plans were developed to show a clear path from the existing condition to a home that better supports family life, storage, daily movement, and privacy.

Design response
A practical design focused on how the home needed to work.
The proposed design reorganized the home around clearer circulation, better separation of spaces, and a more functional garage and entry sequence. The primary suite was added to solve the one-bathroom limitation while improving privacy and long-term livability.
The exterior was developed to make the larger footprint feel cohesive, with the garage, entry, and bedroom wing working together as one composition.
Project outcome
The project concluded during the design development phase as the client evaluated construction options. Even without moving into full construction documentation, the design package gave the owners a clear picture of what was possible and what tradeoffs were involved.
